IRTA's Commitment to Education
Last year's annual convention delivered a record-number of transportation and logistics educational programs. The IRTA Board and staff have made a commitment to continue to expand educational and training opportunities through the organization. As part of this initiative, IRTA will continue to build training at the Convention and will also begin to offer webinars and regional lunches. Webinars and regional lunches make IRTA training even more accessible to members and are a great way to bring you new and exciting trends and topics.

We'd like to hear from you about what topics are important to you. What would you like to learn more about? Are there specific speakers from whom you would like to hear at Convention?  This programming is all about you so your opinion matters. Please submit your education ideas and topic requests to Colleen Caster at ccaster@irta.org.

Quote of the Month: Food vs. Fuel Debate Rages On
Quote"Corn-based ethanol is not perfect, but it's been blamed for practically every problem under the sun. What's next? Summer colds? Computer viruses? Bad hair days?" - Senator Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) during a U.S. Senate Committee hearing organized to address the food vs. fuel debate over corn and ethanol. See a full analysis of Nelson's comment from the Grocery Manufactures Association.

"In the UK alone, biofuel subsidies cost £550m annually. In 2005, a similar investment in preventing deforestation and peatland destruction could have offset the equivalent of up to 37% of all UK CO2 emissions." - Ben Caldecott in a report from UK-based think tank Policy Exchange advocating an end to biofuel subsidies in the UK.
